(album review)

We here at Timefighters are living a lie. We''ve known it all along, however, only an ocean of drink could possess us to admit this in the company of others. We wake up every morning blinded by the futility of our struggle. It''s not the sun blaring through our curtainless windows that blinds us, it is Time. We can fight Time all we want, but Time will always win. No matter what weapons we wield, no matter what inventions we mother. In the same vein as umbrellas fighting rain, or the Golden Gate Bridge fighting California''s sink into the ocean, Time will always win. That is the lesson we can garner from Paleo''s new (and old) album, Pedestrian Crossing (Little Egypt Records).

"Arty", "Arty" – with that snooty accent on the ‘t': "Ar-tee"; she said she's drinking ARTY!  So here's where the mystery ends! He's been missing for weeks.

Sizizis' all-nite grand opening--every kind of ghost was present. -Otis Pig There are times when the very last place in the world I''d like to be is home. For one thing, I feel like an abundance of home leads to an absence of world. What I mean is this: every morning I watch Mt. Rainier emerge from the clouds through my window, but the wooden frame mounts that mountain like some landscape painting, &suddenly that''s all it means to me. I can''t hear a word that Mt. Rainier says, because I am too far away. My windowpane filters that sound.

Along Fourth Avenue and Jefferson Street, characters of all kinds find their way to the greatest treasure a parking lot can offer: Olympia''s most beloved artesian well. The very best water in Thurston County just might spring from that old pipe between spots forty-three and forty-four. Its neck peaks out from cement blocks, with water flowing outward into an almost heart-shaped pool before heading toward a nearby storm drain. A mural with stenciled images of well-goers watches over the humble pipe, reminding visitors of the collective responsibility urged in protecting a shared source of water.

Adventures in Creative Living Pt 2: Reality Check

Like many revolutionary pipe dreams, the reality of the cabin was far less attractive than my hypothesized romantic vision. In many ways the cabin was more functional than I had anticipated. It had both a solar panel for limited light in the evenings and a rainwater collection system. It also sported a propane tank for cooking. Unfortunately, the propane brought living expenses up to par with my current situation. Most disappointing however, was the appearance...

It's 1:00 am on Sunday, December 28, and I am flipping through a recent impulse-buy, a book called Dwelling Portably. It''s a compilation of newsletters about portable dwelling and long camping. I'm looking to see if they have any alternatives to refrigeraters. I haven't found any yet. I'm trying to decide if I could do this. My alarm is set for 8:00 am and in the morning (the real morning), when I will put my left and right feet into two pairs of socks and big rain boots and muck my way downtown to the transit center, where I will wait for the bus.The bus will take me to look at look at a 12x12 cabin with loft. It has no utillities, only a wood-stove for heat and solar powered light. Which might be a little extreme right now, in the middle of winter. But if not now, then when?
